4th anniversary graphic

Orange Wednesdays is celebrating its 4th Anniversary today – 25 April 2016!

Several people have helped us since day one in so many ways. First I want to recognize the help of my friends – Kevin Roberts, Justin Cosgrove, Valerie Spangler, Patti Thomas, Nick Hock and Scott Caddell. Marge Neal for her article in Dundalk Patch. Then the support of WJZ through Ron Matz, Marty Bass, Don Scott and Linh Buhl, Sharon Gibala, Mike Shuh and the rest of the morning news team who basically picked up the ball and kept it going.

Small businesses like Poor Boys, Smyth Jewelers, Watson’s Garden Center, Natty Boh Gear, Great Moments, All About Me, Eric Insurance, and Federal Hill Wines and Spirits have been wonderful!

Our local media (WJZ, WBAL, ABC2, FOX) each Wednesday shows fans how to WearOrangeWednesdays in a professional manner yet have fun with shout-outs, Tweeting selfies and all other Orioles news. Plus 105.7 radio and Jim Hunter helped as 2016 Spring Training broadcasts at Dempsey’s gave shout-outs to Orange Wednesdays this year. MASN too got involved through O’s Xtra with Jim Hunter, Rick Dempsey and occasionally Jim Palmer, Mike Bordick.

Baltimore County Public Schools joined us and I’ve gained so many opportunities to spread our campaign through their support plus be invited when Buck Showalter was honored at the Carver Center and had a chance to interact with county school kids.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital through Marsha Eklund Laurence, Dempsey’s, Phillips Seafood, Baltimore County Rec and Parks and so many more.

We continue top grow and expand as with any business and have Chuck Boemmel teaming with me to work the Twitter side of social media gaining friends and relationships as we expand our media support.

Recently, our involvement with Todd Unger and Natty Boh Gear have helped as we monetize Orange Wednesdays. And we are excited about new items that are in process and utilizing other small businesses with specialty items.

But the key to our success is you the fan who wear #Orange on Wednesdays, to all games home/away, at work, on vacation and inspires the rest of #Birdland to join us! Again my sincere thanks to all!

This morning on #GMM2, Co-Anchor Charley Crowson announced that this Friday will be his last day on the air after a 5 1/2 year tenure in Baltimore. He will be returning to his home state of Arkansas for a new chapter in his life.

This news came a quite a surprise to us at WearOrangeWednesdays.com as Charley has been a good friend and supporter of #WOW. While his leaving is sad we are happy for him that he is able to return home to explore more pursuits in life. Hopefully he will carry warm memories of Baltimore with him to Arkansas and will continue to #BackTheBirds. Our fingers are crossed that some #Orange will find it’s way into his wardrobe on Wednesdays (maybe even a little #purple on Fridays).

I first made acquaintance with Charley a little over a year ago when I began helping Nancy Cook with the social media (#Twitter) aspect of #WOW. Charley was always polite and engaging and never treated me like I was a troll or just looking for a retweet. We stayed in touch all throughout the year and discussed many topics; he and I even share a fondness for #Crocs. I always found Charley to be friendly, genuine and not one to take himself too seriously. His love of sports always came through in our interactions. Weekday mornings, especially Wednesday mornings will be different without him on the air.

I am confident that Charley will find success in whatever path he follows in the future. Enjoy your daughter, your home, your family and whatever lies ahead for you in life. #WOW will miss your support and I am happy to have made your acquaintance sir.

Good Morning #Os fans. Today is the second #WearOrangeWednesday of the season and the #Orioles sit in first place with a record of 7-0. Social media is abuzz with #Os talk, the local media is wearing their #orange and there is excitement in the air.

What a difference nine days can make. This is certainly not Spring Training. Many in the National media who were condemning the Orioles and their pitching staff are now struggling to explain why this team is 7-0. Trust me, I know. Sirius MLB Radio is filled with talking heads who are giving props to the #Birds, but at the same time are finishing their comments with “but”. Full disclosure, I never thought we’d be 7-0, but I love it and will take that any day.

Regardless of how you feel or have predicted this team will do in 2016, you are in for one wild ride, it is going to be fun; #BuckleUp.

The offense is doing what was thought it would do and the pitching has done enough to keep the team in the game and keep the score close. Close your eyes for a moment and imagine what will happen when Adam Jones returns to the lineup! Say what you want about the front office but the early returns are that it built a team and that team is fun to watch.

Here at #WearOrangeWednesdays, we are promoting the #Birds and are trying to unite the broader community around a common goal. Since you are reading this you obviously support #WOW. The challenge now is to follow #WOW on #FaceBook and #Twitter and if you already do encourage a fellow #Orioles fan to do the same. Please help grow our numbers; there is strength in numbers. Also, on Wednesdays answer the #WOWRollCall on #Twitter by telling us you have your #orange on and are backing the Birds.

2016 looks to be a fun season and the #Orioles and #WearOrangeWednesdays want you to be a part of it. Consider showing your #Os pride by purchasing a #WOW shirt or wine glasses (click on the SHOP tab for more info) and please support our partners by frequenting and supporting their businesses and telling them that you appreciate their #OrangePride.

Our #Orioles are 7-0, who’d have thought it?!
#Orange you excited!!!!

The #Orioles defeated the #Rays 5-3 yesterday on Kids Opening DayThe Yard - Kids Opener to finish week one of the 2016 season as the ONLY undefeated team in the Major Leagues. Yes, you read that right, the #Orioles are 5-0 and are the only team to not have lost a game. Not since 1970 have the #Orioles started a season by winning their first 5 games.

It certainly was a wild week, rain delays, cold, a postponed game and even some snow. Through it all, the #Birds persevered and put all five games in the #wincolumn.

#OPACY saw 8 home runs hit by the #Birds (3 by #Manny Machado, 2 by #Chris Davis and even 1 by the newest fan favorite, #Joey Rickard). The team’s offense has been good enough to rate second in #MLB with a batting average of .300. Even the much criticized (during Spring Training) pitching staff was better than advertised and sits a top all of #MLB with a 1.80 ERA and 1.04 WHIP.

Hitting and pitching, it’s all been there, excitement is in the air at #OPACY and the #Birds are 5-0. The “week that was” has been a very good one. Sit back #O’s fans and enjoy the ride. The #O’s are in Boston and Texas this week and let’s see what they can do on their first road trip. #LetsGoOs!

I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to ALL the #Orioles employees who braved the elements and late nights last week to make the experience at #OPACY the very best in #MLB. Thank You from #WearOrangeWednesdays!

Today, I will be proudly wearing our first official Orange Wednesdays tee shirt made by Todd Unger of Natty Boh Gear! Please check out our shirt on NattyBohGear.com under WOW tab to be able to purchase online! Or stop by at the Thames St shop next to Horse You Came In On to pickup in person!  Thank you sincerely Todd for all your help and support!

Finally, Opening Day 2016 is here! We at Orange Wednesdays are so excited to begin this OMAZING baseball season. The Yard is ready, the Baltimore Orioles team is ready, WJZ and MASN are ready and we FANS are more than ready! So let’s go ORIOLES and “PAINT THE CITY ORANGE!”  Oooo OOO Oooo Oooo!!!

We are planning to kick-off WearOrangeWednesdays on Wednesday, March 30th for the 2016 Orioles Baseball season.

Our business partners are working on marketing promotions to help us kick-off the season.

We’ll keep you posted…

The NFL season came to a close last night with the Denver Broncos defeating the Carolina Panthers 24-10 in Super Bowl 50. This all happened after our region dug out of the deepest snowfall in MD history, #Blizzard2016, but more snow is forecast for tomorrow.

Despite the weather, this means Spring is near and ORIOLES BASEBALL is coming! It really is coming! There is photographic evidence that the equipment truck for the #Orioles has arrived at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota. Spring Training hats and jerseys have been previewed and in some cases, even purchased by fans.

While #Orange was on display last night at the Super Bowl, it will also be featured on the #Orioles Spring jerseys. You are reading this on #WOW; do you see a pattern? #Orange may very well be the color of 2016 and that means good things for our Birds.

Embrace the #Orange, Wear Orange Wednesdays. It’s a harbinger of Spring and all things #Orioles.

Baseball season is coming!

PS: Please be safe tomorrow in the snow!

Several weeks ago I wrote about Brooks Robinson auctioning off his memorabilia collection for charity. The final numbers are in and I would like to update everyone on how the auction did.

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox/2015/11/brooks_robinson_collection_garners_144_million_for_charity

I have no doubt that The Constance and Brooks Robinson Foundation will do great work with the proceeds and that our community will truly benefit from Brooks and Connie’s generosity. He is without a doubt “Mr. Oriole” and a great benefactor for Baltimore.

In an article posted on October 7th, Childs Walker of the Baltimore Sun details the decision made by Orioles legend Brooks Robinson to auction off a major portion (240 items) of his personal memorabilia. In summary, Brooks and his wife Connie are doing this not out of any great financial need but rather in an effort to give back for the many blessings they have received in their life. The proceeds from the auction will go to the Constance and Brooks Robinson Foundation where ultimately the money will support many charities; some of which I am sure are Baltimore based. Here’s the link to Childs’ article: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles/bs-sp-brooks-robinson-auction-charity-20151007-story.html

Orioles fans can help out by visiting Heritage Auctions and bidding on some of the items. The auction is active and will end on November 6th. While not for everyone, this auction will allow Orioles fans to own a piece of Orioles history while helping charity. Brooks did so much for us as fans now is our chance to help his Foundation.

The items can be viewed here: http://www.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?N=0+793+794+791+792+1893+1577+2088&chkNotSold=0&Ntk=SI_Titles-Desc&Nty=1&Ntt=brooks+robinson+collection&ic=homepage-search-071713
