Blog – Page 3 – Wear Orange Wednesdays

In an article posted on October 7th, Childs Walker of the Baltimore Sun details the decision made by Orioles legend Brooks Robinson to auction off a major portion (240 items) of his personal memorabilia. In summary, Brooks and his wife Connie are doing this not out of any great financial need but rather in an effort to give back for the many blessings they have received in their life. The proceeds from the auction will go to the Constance and Brooks Robinson Foundation where ultimately the money will support many charities; some of which I am sure are Baltimore based. Orioles fans can help out by visiting Heritage Auctions and bidding on some of the items. The auction is active and will end on November 6th. While not for everyone, this auction will allow Orioles fans to own a piece of Orioles history while helping charity. Brooks did so much for us as fans now is our chance to help his Foundation.

The 2015 ALCS kicks off tonight in Kansas City, MS at Kauffman Stadium when the Royals play host to the Toronto Blue Jays. Each team reached this point by overcoming the underdog in the ALDS; Toronto by winning 3 in a row and Kansas City by winning 2 in a row.

This matchup may prove to be problematic for Orioles fans as Kansas City swept the Birds in the 2014 ALCS while irritating many with their mouths and antics. The Blue Jays have become the bully of the AL and feel slighted and offended when teams/players do something they don’t like.

My question is this, Orioles fans: Who are you rooting for in the ALCS or do you even care? Personally, I am only watching this series to see what I believe will be the inevitable brawl between the two teams. Trust me, the Blue Jays will be offended by the Royals which will lead to histrionics and a bench-clearing brawl (or two). I don’t like either team and could care less who wins. My #OrangeFever will not allow me to root for either of these teams.

I am all in on the Cubs this year; Marty McFly can’t be wrong, can he? #FlyTheW.

Hello #Orioles fans and supporters of #WOW. My name is Chuck Boemmel. Like all of you, I bleed orange and black; my earliest memory of the #Orioles is listening to the 1969 World Series in my Grandfather’s basement (oh how I hate Ron Swoboda). Many of you may have seen my tweets this season encouraging both the media and Orioles fans to wear their #orange on #WOW. Nancy has allowed me to help her in promoting #WearOrangeWednesdays and has even allowed me to blog here on the site and that is why I am here. I will continue to promote #WOW and the #Orioles, baseball is my passion and I love to share that passion with others. The 2015 Orioles season afforded me the opportunity to assist Nancy O’Neil Cook in her efforts to promote Wear Orange Wednesdays. I tried to handle the Twitter side for Nancy and I am certain some of you saw my many Tweets each week. The main focus of my effort was aimed at the morning Baltimore media in the hope of starting each Wednesday off “ORANGE”. I interacted with some of you, reminded some of you and even annoyed some of you; all in the hope of spreading our love for the Orioles and painting the town #ORANGE.

To the morning media personalities at ABC2, FOX45, WBAL and WJZ and to the MASN personalities, I would like to say Thank You! You allowed me to reach out to you each week and were friendly and patient with me. All of you wore your #ORANGE in support of the Orioles and that is greatly appreciated. Each of you, in your own way, has helped to grow Wear Orange Wednesdays. Your influence and reach over Baltimore is great and #WOW would not be where it is without your assistance.

At the risk of omitting someone, I will not attempt to name everyone who wore #ORANGE hopefully upon my suggestion but will say that you all have the heartfelt gratitude of both Nancy and me. It is our hope to see all of you in #ORANGE again next season. Thank you again!

With this being the Baltimore Orioles final homestand, we are asking all fans to WEAR ORANGE PROUDLY and support our beloved Orioles. I know it has been a difficult season for the team and fans, but we are proud of this team and support them win, lose or tie. Let’s end this 2015 season on a high note!

Henry Urrutia gave us a huge WIN last night against the Mets with his first MLB HR in the 9th inning for WALK-OFF HR WIN!!! After the game, Henry was PIED by Adam Jones and received baseball from a classy Mets fan. He was emotional and ecstatic!!!
